Stored script execution via unvalidated layout fields
Published Sep 4, 2025 · Updated Sep 4, 2025
Stored XSS in appRain CMF 4.0.5 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser via add-on layout fields. The rich_text_editor add-on update endpoint stores the data[Addon][layouts] and data[Addon][layouts_except] values without proper input validation. Low-privileged access is required to submit the values, and another user must view the stored content; script execution can expose or modify data available to that user's session.
