CVE-2025-40933Network attack vector

Authentication bypass via predictable session identifiers

Published Sep 17, 2025 · Updated Sep 17, 2025

Predictable session IDs in Apache::AuthAny 0.19 through 0.201 allow remote attackers to access protected systems via forged cookies. The generator in Apache2/AuthAny/Cookie.pm hashes epoch time and output from Perl's noncryptographic rand function with MD5. No credentials or user interaction are required; predicting a valid token permits session impersonation and protected-data disclosure, with no reported write or service-interruption impact.
