Application crash via unbounded searchrec name input
Published Apr 29, 2025 · Updated Apr 29, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Code Projects School Billing System 1.0 allows local users to crash the application via a crafted student name. The searchrec function passes the Name input to scanf with an unbounded %[^ ] conversion into a fixed-size stack buffer. Access requires the application's login and local menu workflow; the public proof of concept demonstrates an access-violation crash, while arbitrary code execution is not demonstrated.
