CVE-2025-40708Network attack vector

Session-cookie theft via unvalidated event name

Published Aug 29, 2025 · Updated Aug 29, 2025

Stored XSS in OpenAtlas 8.9.0 allows remote authenticated users to steal another authenticated user's session cookie via an event name. The /insert/event handler accepts the POST name parameter without adequate validation, allowing injected script content to execute when the crafted event is viewed. The attack requires authenticated event submission and passive interaction by another authenticated user; it exposes that user's cookie and permits browser-context content changes.
