Unauthenticated stored XSS via unsanitized comment highlights
Published May 7, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Relevanssi 4.24.3 and earlier and Premium 2.27.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to run scripts through search highlights. The highlighting path in lib/excerpts-highlights.php passes comment content into generated excerpts without sufficient sanitization or output escaping. Comments must be included in excerpts, and a user must open the affected post through search results, allowing the stored script to run in that user's browser.
