Cross-privilege pointer disclosure via futex exec race
Published Dec 9, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Information disclosure in the Linux kernel futex subsystem allows local users to read privileged-process pointers during an exec race. The get_robust_list syscalls check ptrace access before exec but read robust_list afterward without locking the target's exec state. An unprivileged caller must race a target entering a setuid-root executable, exposing memory addresses across a privilege boundary as an exploit-chain primitive.
