Kernel crash via untyped NTFS metadata inode

Denial of service in the Linux kernel ntfs3 driver allows attackers to crash the kernel by opening crafted NTFS metadata. ntfs_read_mft assigns file inode operations to $Extend records without assigning a valid file type, so may_open reaches its invalid-mode assertion. The demonstrated trigger mounts a crafted NTFS image with ntfs3 and opens its $Extend metadata record, terminating the running kernel.
