Kernel crash via missing PTP callback
Published Dec 8, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel gve PTP driver 6.17 through 6.17.7 allows local users to crash the system. The driver's ptp_clock_info omits both gettimex64 and gettime64, while ptp_clock_gettime() and ptp_sys_offset() assume that one callback exists. Reaching the fault requires the affected gve PTP implementation and a call through its time-query path; the reported consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
