System crash via NULL interface-request dereference
Published Dec 4, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
A NULL pointer dereference in Linux 6.14 through 6.17.9 allows local users to crash the system through the ethtool tsconfig Netlink path. In net/core/dev_ioctl.c, generic_hwtstamp_ioctl_lower() dereferences kernel_cfg->ifr after the call chain supplies it as NULL. Reaching the path requires local access to hardware-timestamp configuration, and successful exploitation terminates the running system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
