Service interruption via XFS symlink repair over-read
Published Dec 4, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel XFS symlink repair from 6.10 allows local users to interrupt service through malformed XFS metadata. The xrep_symlink_salvage_inline path bounds a copy by the data-fork size instead of xfs_ifork::if_bytes, so it reads beyond the in-core buffer. The demonstrated path runs through xfs_scrub as UID 0 and requires an XFS inline symlink whose fork allocation exceeds its buffer length.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
