Kernel memory corruption via malformed EROFS extents
Published Dec 4, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Memory corruption in Linux kernel 6.15 through 6.17.5 allows local users to compromise the kernel by reading a crafted mounted EROFS image. An encoded extent with an out-of-range 48-bit physical address makes pointer addition wrap in z_erofs_submit_queue(), causing out-of-bounds access to pcl->compressed_bvecs[]. An attacker-controlled image must be mounted, after which ordinary file-read access can expose or overwrite kernel heap data and crash the system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
