CVE-2025-40011

Kernel crash via stale HDMI driver data

Published Oct 20, 2025 · Updated Oct 20, 2025

NULL-pointer dereference in affected Linux kernel revisions allows attackers to crash the kernel during gma500 HDMI teardown. The oaktrail_hdmi teardown sequence clears pdev->driver_data before oaktrail_hdmi_i2c_exit retrieves and dereferences that same pointer to obtain i2c_dev. Reachability requires an Oaktrail gma500 HDMI device and execution of its PCI driver teardown path; no remote trigger or data-access consequence is published.
