CVE-2025-40002

Local use-after-free via delayed-work cancellation race

Published Oct 18, 2025 · Updated Oct 18, 2025

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel 6.14 through 6.17.2 allows local users to trigger invalid memory access through a Thunderbolt race. tb_dp_dprx_stop() cancels delayed work without ensuring completion, permitting tb_tunnel to be freed while tb_dp_dprx_work() still dereferences it. Reachability requires local low-privileged access, Thunderbolt DisplayPort tunnel activity, and a narrow cleanup-versus-worker timing window.
