CVE-2025-39997

Memory corruption via USB MIDI teardown race

Published Oct 15, 2025 · Updated Oct 15, 2025

Use-after-free in Linux kernel ALSA USB MIDI teardown allows attackers to access freed memory during USB MIDI device removal. The snd_usbmidi_free function deletes endpoint storage before synchronously stopping the error timer and USB request blocks, so interrupt-context callbacks can dereference released heap objects. Reachability requires teardown of an affected USB MIDI endpoint; upstream material documents the invalid access but not a resulting crash or code execution.
