CVE-2025-39970

Host crash via unchecked traffic-class index

Published Oct 15, 2025 · Updated Oct 15, 2025

Out-of-bounds access in the Linux i40e driver allows local users controlling an SR-IOV VF to crash the host via crafted filter metadata. i40e_validate_cloud_filter accepts action_meta equal to vf->num_tc, then uses that out-of-range traffic-class index to select and dereference pf->vsi[]. Exploitation requires control of a VF admin queue with spoof checking disabled and can panic the host, disrupt the adapter, or redirect traffic across VFs.
