CVE-2025-39969

Guest-to-host compromise via repeated resource requests

Published Oct 15, 2025 · Updated Oct 15, 2025

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel i40e driver allows guest OS users controlling an SR-IOV VF to compromise the host via resource replays. i40e_vc_get_vf_resources_msg accepts repeated VIRTCHNL_OP_GET_VF_RESOURCES requests because I40E_VF_STATE_ACTIVE does not prove resources remain loaded, allowing access through a freed or wrong VSI. The path requires control of a passed-through VF or VFIO device and can disclose host memory, corrupt filters and driver state, or panic the host.
