CVE-2025-39914

System crash via failed trace PID allocation

Published Oct 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Double free in Linux kernel tracing from 5.16 allows local users to crash the system through trace PID filter updates. On allocation failure, trace_pid_list_set replaces the filtered PID list without handling the error, allowing sched_switch to be registered twice. Reaching the condition requires trace PID control access and injected allocation failure, and the upstream record states that it occurs only as the system is already about to crash.
