CVE-2025-39862

Kernel-memory corruption via stale WCID list entries

Published Sep 19, 2025 · Updated Sep 19, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in Linux 6.2 through 6.16.5 allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory via Wi-Fi frames. The mt7915 reset path restarts mac80211 without first clearing WCID list membership and station associations, so recreated entries reuse linked nodes and corrupt kernel lists. An unauthenticated attacker within Wi-Fi range can trigger the reset with management-frame traffic, producing kernel-memory reads and writes or an AP crash or hang.
