CVE-2025-39829

Local denial of service via stale notifier registration

Published Sep 16, 2025 · Updated Sep 16, 2025

Improper notifier cleanup in the Linux kernel allows local users to interrupt service through the function-profiling interface. If start_graph_tracing fails, register_ftrace_graph leaves ftrace_suspend_notifier_call registered because its exception path omits unregister_pm_notifier. Triggering requires low-privileged local access and a subsequent write to function_profile_enabled; the reported result is a kernel warning.
