Kernel-memory corruption via freed HID input device
Published Sep 16, 2025 · Updated Sep 16, 2025
Use-after-free in the Linux ASUS HID driver allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory via a crafted HID descriptor. In hidinput_connect(), an undefined usage page leaves capability bitmaps empty, so hidinput_has_been_populated() frees the input device before asus_probe writes its name. Physical attachment of a malicious HID device with the crafted descriptor is required; the demonstrated consequence is a kernel-memory write to freed storage.
