CVE-2025-39798

Service interruption via inherited NFS capabilities

Published Sep 12, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Improper privilege management in Linux NFS clients allows local users to interrupt service when an automount crosses filesystems. The NFS server-cloning path copies capability flags from the source server into the new filesystem instead of resetting them to protocol-minimal defaults and probing the new server. Local access and an NFS automount that crosses a filesystem boundary are required; the documented consequence is limited to availability.
