Local kernel panic via mremap recovery warning
Published Sep 11, 2025 · Updated Sep 11, 2025
Denial of service in Linux kernel 6.12.11 through 6.16.3 allows local users to trigger a WARN via userfaultfd and mremap(). During recovery from a failed page-table allocation, mm/mremap.c omits the recursive VMA check before its PMD sanity check and emits the warning. Triggering requires userfaultfd registration across at least one PMD and a subsequent mremap(); panic_on_warn converts the warning into a kernel panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
