Administrator account creation via unauthenticated users endpoint
Published Apr 17, 2025 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Weak authentication in Quentn WP 1.2.8 and earlier allows remote attackers to create WordPress administrator accounts through its REST API. The /wp-json/quentn/api/v1/users handler accepts a Base64-encoded user-and-role object with a timestamp and SHA-256 hash that can be computed without the API key. No WordPress login or user interaction is required, and a successful request adds an administrator account capable of taking over the site.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
