Kernel memory disclosure or crash via unchecked length
Published Sep 4, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
An out-of-bounds read in Linux and SIMATIC CN 4100 before V5.0 allows local users to disclose kernel memory or crash via a crafted HFS+ volume. hfsplus_uni2asc() trusts the 16-bit hfsplus_unistr length from a Catalog or Attributes B-tree node and reads beyond the fixed 255-character Unicode array. Exploitation requires the image to be mounted and a directory or extended-attribute lookup; direct mounting needs elevated capability, but delegated or automatic mounting can expose unprivileged users.
