CVE-2025-38708Network attack vector

Kernel crash via missing DRBD device reference

Published Sep 4, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Use-after-free in Linux DRBD and affected Siemens firmware allows remote attackers to crash the kernel during conflicting writes. The handle_write_conflicts path processes a superseded write without taking a device reference, so drbd_destroy_device can free the device before later access. Reachability requires two-primaries mode and simultaneous writes to the same sector; normal clustered storage coordinates writers, so the disclosed result is a kernel crash.
