Local service hang via cyclic exFAT chain
Published Sep 4, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Infinite-loop denial of service in the Linux exFAT driver allows local users to hang filesystem operations through a corrupted volume. Five directory paths—exfat_count_dir_entries(), exfat_create_upcase_table(), exfat_load_bitmap(), exfat_find_dir_entry(), and exfat_check_dir_empty()—follow cyclic cluster chains without detecting a repeated cluster. Triggering the flaw requires local access to operate on a specially corrupted exFAT filesystem; affected operations can remain stuck and consume processing time.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
