Local service interruption via failed perf buffer mapping
Published Aug 19, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Resource leak in perf/core in Linux 6.14, 6.15 before 6.15.10, and 6.16 before 6.16.1 allows local users to interrupt service. On a map_range() failure, perf_mmap() removes page-table entries but skips perf_mmap_close(), leaking references, corrupting user->vm accounting, and unbalancing event_mapped() callbacks. The path requires local low-privileged access and a failed mapping; published impact is limited to availability rather than data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
