Kernel crash via unchecked thermal-name allocation
Published Aug 16, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux mt7925 Wi-Fi driver allows local users to crash the kernel during thermal initialization. mt7925_thermal_init() passes an unchecked NULL name returned by devm_kasprintf() to devm_hwmon_device_register_with_groups(), which dereferences it. Reachability requires an mt7925 device, reachable hardware-monitor support, and a name-allocation failure during device initialization.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
