Local denial of service via remoteproc memory leak
Published Jul 25, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in Linux kernel releases beginning with 5.13 allows local users to interrupt service through a failed remoteproc attach. In rproc_attach(), the rproc_handle_resources() error path skips rproc_resource_cleanup(), leaving allocations from imx_rproc_prepare() unreleased. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access, an i.MX remote processor in the detached state, and a resource-handling failure.
