CVE-2025-38335

Service interruption via hard-IRQ sleeping lock acquisition

Published Jul 10, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Improper locking in Linux kernel 5.13 through 6.15.3 allows local users to interrupt service through gpio-keys input handling. With PREEMPT_RT enabled, gpio_keys_irq_timer() runs in hard interrupt context and calls input_event(), which acquires a spinlock converted to a sleeping rt_spin_lock. The condition requires the PREEMPT_RT configuration and execution of the gpio-keys timer path; reaching it produces an invalid-context kernel BUG and affects availability.
