System hang via uncleared AoE request queue
Published Jul 10, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel AoE driver from 4.20 allows local users to hang the system by downing an AoE device. The aoedev_downdev() path leaves accepted block requests on rq_list, so blk_mq_freeze_queue() waits indefinitely for completions. Reachability requires an active AoE device with queued requests and local ability to down it; the resulting system hang affects availability only.
