Local service interruption via MPLS RCU misuse
Published Jul 10, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
RCU misuse in affected Linux kernel versions allows local users to interrupt service through an MPLS route lookup. In net/mpls/af_mpls.c, mpls_route_input_rcu() dereferences net->mpls.platform_label with an RCU-only check even when mpls_getroute() holds RTNL, although the pointer is updated only under RTNL. A low-privileged local user can reach the path without user interaction; published assessments bound the consequence to availability loss.
