CVE-2025-38231

Kernel crash via premature nfsd worker execution

Published Jul 4, 2025 · Updated Jul 14, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel's nfsd allows local users to crash affected Linux and Siemens controller systems. In nfs4_state_start_net(), laundromat_work can run before nfsd_ssc initialization completes and dereference that pointer through nfsd4_ssc_expire_umount. Local access and an extended userspace-response delay are required; the bounded consequence is an availability-only kernel crash.
