Local kernel memory corruption via negative framebuffer index
Published Jul 4, 2025 · Updated Jul 14, 2026
Improper array-index validation in Linux kernel fbcon allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through the store_modes sysfs node. fbcon_info_from_console uses a -1 con2fb_map entry directly to index fbcon_registered_fb instead of rejecting an unregistered console. A local user must reach the writable framebuffer sysfs attribute; the resulting out-of-bounds kernel access can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
