CVE-2025-38174

System crash via double-dequeued Thunderbolt request

Published Jul 4, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Race condition in affected Linux kernel branches starting at 3.17 allows attackers to crash systems through Thunderbolt configuration requests. Concurrent tb_cfg_request_work executions can both call tb_cfg_request_dequeue, causing double list_del on ctl->request_queue when the active-state bit is not checked. Trigger conditions remain unclear; the published failure occurred on a Thunderbolt-equipped device, and the demonstrated consequence is a kernel crash.
