Kernel memory use-after-free via CoreSight configuration race
Published Jul 3, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Use-after-free in affected Linux kernels allows local users to trigger access to a freed CoreSight configuration descriptor via configfs. cscfg_csdev_enable_active_config() releases its device lock without retaining the configuration descriptor while another CPU can deactivate the configuration and unload its module. Reachability requires concurrent configuration enablement, deactivation, and module unloading; no crash, privilege escalation, or data disclosure is reported.
