Boot-time panic via uninitialized CPU descriptor
Published Jul 3, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel's ACPI CPPC code allows attackers to crash the system during boot with the nosmp parameter. cppc_allow_fast_switch() iterates over possible CPUs and dereferences each per-CPU cpc_desc_ptr even though nosmp leaves descriptors for offline CPUs uninitialized. Reaching the fault requires control of kernel boot parameters and an ACPI CPPC configuration; the resulting NULL access panics the kernel before normal startup.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
