Memory disclosure and crash via malformed HID descriptors
Published Jul 3, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in Linux usbhid parsing allows local users to disclose kernel memory or crash the system via a malformed USB HID descriptor. In usbhid_parse(), attacker-controlled bLength and bNumDescriptors values drive iteration across descriptor entries without validating that the reported structure contains them. Reachability requires low-privileged local access and a crafted HID descriptor; the bounded effects are kernel-memory disclosure and a system crash.
