CVE-2025-38100

Local kernel crash via inconsistent I/O-bitmap state

Published Jul 3, 2025 · Updated Jul 14, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in Linux x86 I/O-bitmap cleanup allows local users to crash the kernel during failed fork cleanup. io_bitmap_exit calls task_update_io_bitmap for a noncurrent task, while copied TIF_IO_BITMAP state can lack both a bitmap and IOPL emulation level 3. Reaching the fault requires local low-privilege execution on x86 with inconsistent I/O-bitmap state; affected Siemens controllers expose it only within their additional GNU/Linux subsystem.
