Service interruption via uninitialized MCTP interface index
Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Use of uninitialized memory in Linux kernel MCTP allows local users to interrupt service through a malformed address-dump request. The mctp_dump_addrinfo function reads hdr->ifa_index without first verifying that the netlink message contains a struct ifaddrmsg, then compares the uninitialized value while filtering interfaces. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and affects availability; no confidentiality or integrity impact is reported.
