System crash via unchecked zero divisor
Published May 20, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Divide-by-zero in the Linux kernel dib8000 media driver allows local users to crash the system during digital-TV tuner setup. The dib8000_set_dds function uses a zero value returned by dib8000_read32 as a divisor when calculating the DDS value instead of rejecting it. Triggering requires local low-privilege access and an affected DiB8000-series DVB frontend; the consequence is limited to system availability.
