Local denial of service via fence race
Published May 20, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Race condition in the Nouveau fence code in Linux from 5.6 until each branch's fix allows local users to disrupt system availability. nouveau_fence_done() can signal a fence while it remains pending, and nouveau_fence_context_kill() then sets an error on the already-signaled fence, triggering WARN_ON. Low-privileged local access and use of a Nouveau-backed graphics channel are required; no data access or modification is disclosed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
