Service interruption via leaked transmit buffers
Published May 20, 2025 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
Memory leakage in the lan743x transmit path in Linux 4.17 and later allows local users to exhaust kernel memory through GSO traffic. With GSO enabled and no packet fragments, the driver maps the skb to an EXT descriptor instead of the LS descriptor, so completion never frees it. Exploitation requires low-privilege local access and a lan743x interface using GSO; repeated transmissions can deplete memory and interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
