System hang via inverse VPU lock order
Published May 20, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Improper locking in the Linux kernel Intel VPU driver allows local users to hang systems by racing job submission with fault handling. In drivers/accel/ivpu/ivpu_job.c, ivpu_job_submit takes file_priv before submitted_jobs, while the abort path takes them in reverse order and deadlocks. Triggering the hang requires local low-privilege access, an Intel VPU workload, a concurrent device fault, and continuing job submissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
