Kernel crash via zero-dummy-byte cycle calculation
Published May 20, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Divide by zero in Linux kernel 6.14 through 6.14.5 and 6.15-rc1 through 6.15-rc4 allows local users to crash the kernel. spi_mem_calc_op_duration() divides the dummy-bit count by the dummy bus width while deriving ncycles, without skipping the calculation when an operation has zero dummy bytes. The path is reached when compatible SPI-NAND flash exposes write_cache or update_cache variants with no dummy bytes, and the resulting kernel oops interrupts service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
