CVE-2025-37876

System crash via unconditional procfs directory creation

Published May 9, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Denial of service in affected Linux kernel netfs versions allows local users to crash systems configured without procfs support. netfs_init() calls proc_mkdir() when CONFIG_PROC_FS is disabled, enters error_proc, and leaves initialization in a state that triggers a kernel BUG during readahead. The failure requires CONFIG_NETFS_SUPPORTS=y with CONFIG_PROC_FS=n and interrupts normal system operation.
