Kdump hang via uncleared PTM trigger
Published May 9, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel igc driver allows local users to hang kdump on systems with a PTM-capable Intel NIC. The driver leaves the PTM trigger enabled and clears the status valid bit during a transaction, leaving a reset NIC unable to handle register access. Reaching the kdump hang requires an igc-managed NIC with PTM support and a system crash while the trigger remains enabled; ordinary failed PTM transactions instead time out.
