Kernel panic via miscounted VSC packet buffer
Published May 8, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel 6.8 through 6.15-rc3 allows local users to trigger a fortify panic during VSC packet transfer. The vsc_tp_packet.buf counted_by annotation treats len as buffer capacity even though len excludes the CRC, so vsc_tp_xfer's four-byte CRC append trips fortified memcpy. Exploitation requires local access, GCC 15 fortification, and the VSC MEI transport path; the resulting panic interrupts the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
