Kernel crash via RDMA work-item reinitialization race
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the system by rapidly triggering consecutive RDMA network events. The cma_netevent_callback function reinitializes a shared net_work item before queued work has run, overwriting its pool-workqueue association and leading process_one_work to dereference a null pwq. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access and closely timed RDMA/CMA events; the documented result is a kernel crash, not data disclosure or modification.
