Local service interruption via oversized fan speed
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Divide-by-zero in affected Linux kernel branches starting at 6.0 allows local users to interrupt service via an oversized AMD SMU11 fan speed. In smu_v11_0_set_fan_speed_rpm(), 8 * speed is evaluated without rejecting values above UINT_MAX/8, allowing the denominator to wrap to zero. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and an AMD GPU using the SMU11 path; the resulting kernel fault affects availability only.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
